# Veri-Fill API

> Atum's verifier that guards funds in the settlement vault: it signs releases after delivery and refunds for payments that were not delivered.

Veri-Fill is the service that guards funds in the [settlement vault](https://docs.atum.xyz/get-started/concepts/settlement-vault.md). It reads the chains itself and signs one of two things:

* **Release.** After a [settlement operator](https://docs.atum.xyz/get-started/reference/glossary.md#settlement-operator) pays the recipient and the payout is [final](https://docs.atum.xyz/get-started/concepts/finality.md) on the destination chain, Veri-Fill checks the payout against the selected quote and signs a release. The operator uses it to take the payer's funds from the vault.
* **Refund.** If a payment is not delivered, Veri-Fill checks that nothing was delivered and signs a refund. The funds go back to the payer.

Anyone can call Veri-Fill:

* **Settlement operators** request releases and refunds, and read the finality rule each chain uses.
* **Payers** can check finality per chain and list the vault contracts. A payer does not request refunds here: when a refund is ready, the payment's status is `refund_available` and carries `refund_signature`. See [Refunds](https://docs.atum.xyz/get-started/support/refunds.md).

## Endpoints

| Method | Path | Purpose |
| - | - | - |
| `GET` | `/v1/finality-config` | The finality rule for each chain. See [Destination finality](https://docs.atum.xyz/settle-payments/destination-finality.md). |
| `GET` | `/v1/escrows` | The settlement vault contracts Veri-Fill signs for, per chain. |
| `POST` | `/v1/fulfillment` | Verify a payout and get a release signature. |
| `POST` | `/v1/refund` | Get a refund signature for a payment that was not delivered. Used by settlement operators. A refund is usually signed only after the payment's delivery deadline has passed, so you may be asked to try again later. |
